Efficiency in μmol/J: What It Means for Your Bill and Harvest

Micromoles per joule indicate how much photosynthetically active light you get from each unit of electrical energy.

High-efficiency HortiBloom luminaires in operation
Whole-system efficiency determines how much useful light each unit of energy produces.

What μmol/J measures

Micromoles per joule indicate how much photosynthetically active light you get from each unit of electrical energy. At the same target PPFD, a more efficient system uses fewer kilowatt-hours, produces less residual heat and usually makes climate management easier.

How to compare luminaires

The manufacturer’s maximum figure is not enough. Check the drive current used for the measurement, the LED temperature and whether the value covers the complete luminaire, including its drivers. This makes comparisons between brands fairer.

When efficiency pays back

High-efficiency equipment pays back its initial cost over time, especially in installations that operate for many hours every day throughout the year.
